I was talking to my best friend online the other day and feminism came up. Considering she used to be *slightly* feminist, I thought this was pretty cool when she said what she said. I also found it worthy of a xanga post. . . you don't often find a girl that thinks this way anymore. They're even hard to find in some Christian bubbles sometimes.
Stephanie: WELL . . . we were reading this essay to try to get a feel for the layout of an argumentative paper but that's really not the point. 8:14 AM The point is the content of the paper. It
was about how feminist groups and the "religious right" want to
"censor" the first ammendment to ban pornography and sexually explicit
material it went on about that for a while accused a few people of gender stereotyping 8:15 AM and made some comment about how our culture has been made more open and so women have experienced greater sexual freedom 8:16 AM and the result of all this is greater gender equality. And I was thinking . . . if that's gender equality, I don't want it. There was a time in our history 8:17 AM when women were, in a way, put up on a pedestal. There were things you didn't talk about in front of a lady, things you didn't say. Women were respected as more than just sex objects. They were treated differently but in this case, differently is better. 8:18 AM Women weren't on the same level as men they were cherished protected valued respected. 8:19 AM It just made me realize that I don't really want "gender equality" I want to preserve that distinction that keeps a woman from being just "one of the guys" and treated as such. Those were my thoughts. ~EliasDavid
